starting over

I'm starting over.

Husband is done school. Kids are done school (for now). I've been diagnosed with moderate asthma (such a geek thing to have, right?). I'm working part-time as a freelance title reviewer with Demand Studios - amazing, I love my job.

It's occurred to me to research library science. I think it's something else I would love.  Probably not much of a market or need for it - but it sounds like something I'd be really good at, and would really enjoy doing.

This title reviewing work - it doesn't sound like much, but it's full of minutiae. I'm all about minutiae. I'm not big on getting up early for other things - but I'll get up for this. Words, details, grammar, punctuation, categories, search terms, etc. - I love it. What's not to love?

Yesterday I went to CVS to get earache medicine for my tweener. They didn't have it under children's cold remedies. They didn't have it under cold and flu remedies, allergy medicine or first aid. I was going to ask the pharmacist, but she was busy discussing hospitals and her sister in law with a customer (a regular cozy chat-fest at the drop-off counter while a line was building up behind me). So - I checked the eye drops and saline rinse section. Bingo! Apparently earache relief is categorized with eye drops and saline rinses. It helps to think like a title reviewer, which also thinks like a librarian, apparently - how titles and subjects are categorized.  :)  I mentioned to another pharmacist that this product was a little difficult to find, and I almost left their store. I'm not saying they should not keep the product there - but perhaps have the product in both locations. That may cost more - so perhaps keep a sign saying "Look for 'this product' in this section." Otherwise, they may lose customers, especially when their pharmacists are busy on extended coffee breaks ......

Anyway - I'm really enjoying my work, and 'so far' I am getting good feedback. I hope this continues. I hope they continue this title program. I didn't like it in the beginning, but then they improved it. I'm trying to be helpful to other proofers, but most of them seem to ignore me. But, the staff seems to like me - that's always the way of it. Co-workers/peers ignore me - the people in charge like me. Same as in school - kids hated me, teachers liked me. Oh well. I stand on my own feet and I do my work. It's not my problem what others do or don't like about me - I do my work and don't bother other people, I just try to help if I can.
